BTW, I would love to have a moon monkey... how do they look like?
You'll have to ask Tequila;)

Ok I can see the argument, gold fish out sell ggs at the same time I can't

For not importing them: They don't sell much, so they hang around in the shop too long and they have to import a tequila shovel(not easy;)) to keep feeding them = too much cost.
So that makes sense

For importing them: They sell arrows, pacus etc, certainly not you average goldfish and they must sell other wise they wouldn't import them. So why not a GG:confused:
That doesn't make sense as clearly big fish sell

Or is it that Mauritius people in general don't like them and would rather have a pacu?

Pacus are very rare at Aquavision... and that's because Jeff refuses to sell them if the buyer doesn't seem to understand that the fish will get big fast and that his 10g to hold the cute little baby with the red belly will become obsolete in 2 weeks...

Yet, other LFS sell a lot of them... :( along with red-tail catfish and other monsters... I guess the idea of making the business run is stronger than doing the (really) right thing...

Giant Gouramis were very common once... but for the last year or so, they have altogether disappeared from the market... and the rare ones available are the golden ones and the (shudder) inked albino ones...

I will have to wait...

BTW, Jeff mentioned to me today that he heard of a place on the island where Giant Gouramis are bred for human consumption... will have to check this lead out...

I'm so glad you posted that, I had visions of 'mummy mummy I want that fish, ok then little johny we'll get it and I'll take that goldfish bowl as well'.

Happy to hear that Jeff is a responsible sort of guy who know what he's doing and refuses to sell fish to just anyone.

I wonder just how many mis sold fish end up dieing world wide each year because people just go after the $:(

Interesting lead on the fish farm, keep us posted:)

Yet it does happen... especially at the bigger stores and shopping malls... some kid would see a tank full of tiny baby pacu, get all worked up and throw a tantrum until mummy buys A PAIR (as many LFS have a tendency to sell their medium price fish this way) and a nice goldfish bowl...

I once saw an LFS manager sell 2 baby oscars to a teenager...a couple of hours later, the guy came back with his girl friend and they were looking for tank mates... and they finally purchased 2 pairs of neon tetras, having been confirmed by the store manager that they would be fine with the oscars :screwy:

Curiosity overcame me and I had to ask for tank specs (I can't resist doing that, as you know already). Well, they teenager had a 50 cm x 30 cm x 50 cm tank, some gravel, a couple of plastic aquarium decor and an airstone "so that the fish don't suffocate"...of course, the water had been left overnight to let all the chlorine evaporate... When I asked them whether they knew that oscars ate tetras and that these same oscars would grow to be over a foot long, they gave me the dumbest look... and the store manager, who overheard me, warned me to stop scaring his clients... :irked:

BTW, I've heard that koi pellets are well accepted by Giant Gouramis... and these are relatively cheap and come in big bags...

Will you 2 stop trying to put LFS out of business, if everyone ever thought like you 2 no body would have and fish or pets of any kind. Keep talking the way you do an P.E.T.A. going to come to your places and recruit the both of you. :screwy:

Remember to look at things from the otherside too. And Yanbbrox just wait until C.I.T.E.S. finds out you are harboring Moon Monkey, there going to make you sign on to there treaty too. :nilly:

Anything is good food for GG or all types, including Moon Monkey's, it's like I haven't found something that these things won't eat. Mine are now loving their raw shrimp, even while planning my assassination, they'll gradly go through 4~6 ounces of them.

The question should be what won't they eat?

Now that is a good question

The problem with buying pellets is that as they seem to eat everything you always have something else to feed them with.

I loved to see the vid of them eating the moon monkey's;)
