Giant Mekong?

AFAIK, no fish from the Pangasiidae famiy is wild caught anymore. They are all farm raised. Hence, one can forget about by-catches, mis-IDs, and getting "lucky".

Yep, but IMO, on the other hand this also introduces the chance of hybrids, for example between Paroon and ID sharks..

Not to mention that GMCs are paid much attention, taken great care of, are expensive, highly regulated in SE Asia and worldwide, and cannot be found "mixed in" with IDS - a common farmed food fish - or any other fish for that matter.

What's AFAIK and GMCs? :) ooooo paroon x ID, I never seen such fish before too xD *still a lucky catch* xD

There was a guy who was saying he was selling mekong catfish a few years back on aqua bid. They weren't mekong though. Guy was a scamer. As far as Iding that fish it would be difficult for nearly anyone to ID a fish in such poor condition. IMO definitely not a mekong though. Too jany morphological characteristics do not match up. The pics are not good enough nor are there good enough pics of the other species readily available for a good comparison. For certain not a mekong though.

It could very well even be this species. Note the scientific name of it. For all intents and purposes this species is a mekong catfish just not the Giant Mekong Catfish lol. To me still looks very unhealthy. Would be interesting if you had the space and purchased it and were able to get it healthy enough to get a good ID.

I don't have any space for any type of panga species, but I will get it and try to save it for a good ID! :)

I see! I see! Even the mods can't proper ID it, so it could be anything! It's cheap anyway, I will just get it and grow it up and see what it is in the future! :3

If it is a true mekong, I'd just donate it to the zoo xD

i hope you dont mean the t-dot zoo lol they have crappy looking tanks. nice cat tho im fairly certian its a i.d shark

The cranial morphology doesn't suggest ID shark to me, but that being said I was shut down on a similar discussion a few years back. Apparently according to a well known Ichthyologist ID sharks are so interbred in asia that you get weird variations in the cranial morphology. The only reason I mention it is that this fish is so emaciated you can actually see the cranial detail to some degree. :)
