It the grand scheme of things that will always spark those feelings. This isn't a single case...things like this occur everyday all over the world. Even moreso in asian countries where its culture and a conflict with our viewpoints. Throw in a little overfishing, illegal whaling, fur-trade, and a wasteful meat industry for instance and its only natural to say humans suck. You can't have a 'decimate all because we can' attitude...

things like this happen to a lot of asian cities. :/

Philippine Coast Guard(2008) caught taiwanese poachers wandering in our territories only to find out that they killed a lot of turtles.. endangered ones.. in tonnes...

What can I say? Not everyone in the world has minimum wages and supermarkets....

having said that, I feel for that poor beauty.

This is becoming a moot point, becasue I can't get you to understand my point, which is my fault because I'm too lazy to make my argument effectively over the internet.

Anyway, I completely get the fact that it's endangered, and I think it is important that we don't kill them, but I would have all sea turtles die before people go hungry, so it's really just a matter of values.

I think it's so goofy when people set humans apart and say stuff like "we as humans think we have the right to just kill anything we want." That aspect of our charactaristics is eactly what makes us like all other animals. The real question is what makes us so superior what we feel like we must save lesser species (not saying that we shouldn't protect endangered species, but just something to think about).

I understand what you're saying. I said I agreed, to a degree. I understand the need to feed your family. Your just kept defending your "something to think abouts" deeper and deeper, which appeared to put you on one obvious side of the fence. Yes, people need to eat, but they can survive without eating animals as such. They were happily pulling that turtle in, which I find disturbing. They are fisherman. You cannot tell me that they couldn't let that turtle go, and catch FISH. Fish that can replenish themselves. If they had spent the time fishing, that they spent having a mini festival of rituals killing the poor thing, they could have caught an equal amount of fish. ;)

People set humans apart like that, because we are set apart like that. Having emotional relation to other animals....what is so wrong with that. Animals are animals, us included. We are just on a much higher intelligence level. What makes us so superior? Well, the capacity of our brain for one. We are the smartest. We are the most dominant. We are the top of any chain. This said intelligence should lead us to realize that we need to protect any and all around us, if we want to survive in the extremely long term, as a species, not just individuals. Call it moot, call it goofy, or any other descriptive words you like, but it's all relevant to some. Glad I can entertain you. :)

omg it was still alive when that guy tried to cut it up!!! poor thing...and such a big creature too. how sad.

That is a really shocking clip. That scumbag kicking it at 0.36 was just a disgrace.

You say you understand, but somewhere, something is getting lost, but don't worry about it.

I think you missed the part where they said that their net was destroyed. They physically could not catch any fish because the turtle wrecked the net, therefore they had to keep the turtle.

They didn't start cutting it up while it was alive, they were slicing its throat to kill it. You can't kill something unless it's still living. :screwy:
