i leave the water 25% down on my tank, i only have evaporation plates on my tank like you, and they never jump out . you could try putting some heavy books on there or something. you should de-chlorinate the water before it goes in, i fill up 2 25 litre tubs and leave it for a couple days before tipping it in.

Do you have big snakeheads? I was told the bigger they get, the wilder they get.. I've bought some water softener, will that do the trick you reckon?
i hear wild caught ones are a bit crazy, but the captive bread ones ive had dont seem too bad, but this is only my second try with micros. the biggest i have kept them til is 18 inches. the water softener should help. if they are fed enough and have space, or even plants and caves to hide in that might help.
I guess mine are mine are captive bread as well. What happened to your previous try? BBQ? I'll put a serious amount of plants in the tank. I'm also thinking of getting some floating plants in there..
