looks a little over the slot
yeah that might be true but would you waste 38 pounds of snook when it died in the water after releasing it?

Well I wonder why it died.... ?

Anyways I think it should have been left for one if it is over the slot limit it should have been left and for two leaving it in the ocean is not wasting it, when fish die they die in the ocean and other things live off of that. So if you dont want to waste things, do you go around picking up all the dead road kill off the road?

I thinks its over slot too. If it really did die in the water then its no mystery that it did. You pulled a large stressed fish out of the water and held it vertically. Some people fish there whole lives for a fish like that. Congrats on the catch and all but you need too take better care of the fish you plan or need to release.

and yes I would release 38pounds of snook after it "died in the water"

I understand what you mean, just restrictions are there for a big reason, in FL anyways cant speak for other states. Those big ones are the ones we need for reproduction :D I know down here in FL we def. need the big guys and the smaller guys same many other game fish, some are doing really well, some are recovering and some are not doing so great. They dont throw in restrictions just for the fun of it, there are reasons.

Anyways dont want to argue/sound harsh just wanted to get my opinion out. It is an awesome catch.

when we first caught it, we hooked it on the lip and were careful not to stress it too much. at one point we were debating if we should cut the line since we thought it was hooked up to a shopping cart and didnt want it to struggle for no reason.... but after a few seconds it freed itself. it was oversized and i go for the big guys for sport. we never took it out of the water while it was alive. those pics are after he died. we walked the fish and it swam off quite strongly. then it started going back to the bridge, flipped over and we revived it once more. i am a conservationist like anyone else in the hobby. i always try to release them. i think it is a bit different than roadkill since i know why it died and it doesnt have disease... it is a food fish, unlike a squashed rotten raccoon. i think ash is being a bit harsh, people catch and eat them daily and im not justifying it but if it died i feel that giving it to the crabs would be wasting it. i feel i have a right to eat just as a crab may. i actually gave most of the fish to the poor people in the area, i only kept a pound of it. so yes, i did as much as i could to ensure it had a safe catch and release. ash, if you care so much about stressing fish, please stop fishing. if you want to save the snook i can show you a spot on the beach where the illegal cubans take out a few dozen undersized and oversized snook every day.

Well for starts I never said anything about stressed fish.. you do realize you quoted two different people? Second I didnt know the pictures were after it was dead, all I read is you said it died, so excuse me for not knowning. The part about the roadkill and not wasting, I was just getting out my opnion to likestofish he said "yeah that might be true but would you waste 38 pounds of snook when it died in the water after releasing it? " I was simply replying to that and stating my opnion on that matter in general. My following reply was also to what he replyed to me. I also already know plenty of spots/people who keep under and over sized fish I know its done and I dont hesitate to call fish and game/wildlife. I fish for fun I release my fish and take great care of the ones I catch so I think I am fine fishing, I didnt say anything about stressing them out.

wow huge. You caught it off a pier?

louie, it is off a bridge. it is only 10 feet above the water and when we hook the fish we walk them to the shore so we dont take them out of the water.
ash, i didnt know if all your statements were directed at me so i apoligize for acting so but in a way they were since those people were justifying my actions. i was being defensive since it was the first time you ever commented on my post and you were so offensive and just assumed without asking for further information. i know i quoted 2 people i just though i would address the criticism together. i also feel that to fish for no other reason than sport is cruel though. it is just injuring fish for fun. just my opinion, but if you dont plan on eating them at least once in a long while... it is stressing and injuring them for pure pleasure which seems kinda twisted. i call game and wildlife too but they dont seem to care when the people are illegal and wont pay a fine. seems that they only worry about who they can get money from. then again, they are a government agency so i shouldnt expect more. i too care about the fish and do whatever i can to be able to enjoy fishing them again and again. if you decide to try fishing ny, i can show you and your friends some good spots. i usually catch and release but if the fish is a keeper and they seem plentiful, i MAY keep it (though it is a rare decision).

I am the sameway I keep fish every now and then depending on what it is, if I caught in season/limit and all that good stuff. I guess I could have worded it better than I fish for fun, I didnt mean for it come off that way. I fish for the same reasons you and many others prob. do. Anyways sorry I came off offensive. I understand you were replying to both quotes it just seemed like you thought I made both of them to me. As for fish and game... down here they do a pretty awesome job (in my experience) at catching/checking people. They respond quickly and keep in contact to make sure they got the right person/car/boat etc. and they take care of the issue/s. Suprisingly fish and game here do a pretty good job! If you are ever in FL I know some good spots also for salt and fresh.
