My Freind has a 12'' silver aro his gill's are curling what could be doing this? Water parameters are good! Will they go back to normal or will he have to preform surgery? Thank's in advance!! I will try to get pic's!

gill curl happens when water conditions are not right. what's the water parameters? also which part has curl? the soft membrane or gil plates?

Im going to his house tomorow after work to test his water myself and from what i could understand it's the soft membrane that is curling @ the end of his gill!! Thank's

If water parameters are not right shoud do a 25-40% water change and add a litttle salt!!

I have a 225g & my freind has a 150g!

All the fish I have seen with what you describe have been in poor water and have had poor diets. I have also not seen rolling of the gill plates go away. But I do know that once the water and dietary issues are taken care of the fish will do well. They just may not be show quality anymore.

high nitrates...anyway, u should perform surgery..if left like that, the gills will be exposed to bacterial infection which in will eventually kill the fish.

which part of the gill has curl? the soft membrane or the hard gill plates?

most of the time its a sign that water parameters are not good. :) what are your parameters?
