After 30 years in the hobby, I am specializing these days in fancy goldfish.

Lionheads
Pearlscales
Ranchus
Orandas

Pros
Cute, fat bodied puppy like animals.

Cons
You need a big tank and lots of filtration

These Cons are Pros in my book however, because I love both as much as i like my fish.

Anyone else a Goldfish Keeper? And if you're not, try a few out, they're fantastic.

I've tried these several times
but they always get eaten within 2 days. :(

You need a dedicated tank... now listen, i still house a giant Flowerhorn, Midas and Jack, but they are all in separate tanks for obvious reasons. They all like to shake hands with their teeth.

Check out some of the fancy goldfish on youtube, search for the giants... they are awe inspiring!

Nope, dont try. My gar love them though!

i first started with a goldfish. nobody in my family thought it ws going to get big except my dad who was the "expert " at the time. he was addicted way befor me and while i grew up he shut down his 75 gal and gave me his old 20 to put the goldfish in. they grew that then one day he finally gave me the 75 it was one of the proudest moments of my life. those goldfish grew to like 16 inches but they wernt facy

I tried setting up a second tank and have a few fancy goldfish. It ended in complete failure because I just never seemed to be able to keep up on maintaince. The way things are right now, I only have time for 1 tank.

I keep 2 Butterfly Koi. 4" now Hope to build pond next summer or find a suitable friend with a pond. Feeding every other day now. feeding slowed after summer. 29 gal (yes to small but room to turn and tests so far are good to go. 2 water changes a week.

I have 2 comet feeders that are now 1.5 to 2" a 2 Inch Black Moor and a .75" fancy goldfish again 29 gals.

I like them and understand the water changes and needs but all going strong with proper water changes. I have a 400 HOB for the 4 fish in the 29gal and a and on the koi a powerhead driven filter and a 30gal HOB filter.

I am not currently keeping any, but in the past I have kept orandas, black moors, comets, and a large ryukin (about 9-10" total length).
