I also love my monster catfish and my Eartheaters, but they don't have the personality of the Goldies.

Don't know why but I can't think of them as cute. :WHOA:

All the excess growths and weird shapes just make me think of tumors or deformities. Creepy. :nilly:

After 30 years in the hobby, I am specializing these days in fancy goldfish.

Lionheads
Pearlscales
Ranchus
Orandas

Pros
Cute, fat bodied puppy like animals.

Cons
You need a big tank and lots of filtration

These Cons are Pros in my book however, because I love both as much as i like my fish.

Anyone else a Goldfish Keeper? And if you're not, try a few out, they're fantastic.
Once in a while I will spot a really nice looking feeder goldy and keep it for a few weeks.

My GF has three fantails and they are quite personable. Always greet you, they let you brush their fins and eat out of your hand.

I had a courting pair of ryukins about the size of baseballs in a 55g and the upkeep was just too much. I returned them before they spawned. The water changes required were just outrageous, even with high-quality food.

Someday I'll set up a 60 gallon for a veiltail or a phoenix. They are hypnotic.
Knifegill, have you found sources for both of these so far? They're tricky to find. Lots of people labeled a few broadtail goldfish as veiltails but the tails have forks, enough not to label it correctly as veiltail.

Ichthius (member of several goldfish forums I visit and mod) is breeding the phoenix I believe.

They're so cute. ^_^

I don't have a choice, but to keep one in the living room. This is Fido, my wifes fish, with her tankmates, Blue and THE male betta...
