Didn't this get a bit OT with the guns? ;)

Anyway, if I had money to piss away, I think I'd build low cost animal clinics and more shelters in my area.

Very few people around here "fix" their dogs and cats so the the 2 shelters we have are always full. The Humane Socieity was getting grief from the public about having to put down un-wanted dogs, well what the heck else are they going to do with them? The same people protesting about killing the dogs are the ones who won't get their animals spayed or neutered! :swear:

Pet population control around here is still drowning un-wanted kittens and shooting puppies. Heck, most folk won't even pay to have their sick or old dog put down, they just shoot it in the back yard. It is illegal to do this, of course, but the law isn't enforced. There is really no protection for animals here.

I once turned in a relative for beating his dog so badly it's insides ruptured and it's legs were busted ( a year old Rottie.) The dog was ****ting and puking blood and the vet put it down (I brought it to the vet, otherwise it would have died in the back yard of its owner's house.) NOTHING happened to the person that did this, oh wait, the Humane Society said he couldn't adopt a dog from them in the future (all his dogs are bought from breeders anyway.) :(

I would also fund monthly info-meetings at local schools on how to PROPERLY care for pets, every pet, from fish to horses.

In Indiana you will be prosicuted for abuse of an animal.... we also have a thing called FACE, it is a place were you can get an animal fixed for $30 regardless of your income and free if you cann't aford it. Belive me they enforce and investigate animal abuse complaints...... last year one of me friends wifes call animal control because I had 2 dogs outside in 0 deg weather.... they came out looked at his house... it had lots cedar chips..... they got new water 2 times a day and of couse food everyday. Even after the officer saw that the dogs were fine I still had to take them to the vet so his report could be complete...... he said that if he had found the dogs without shelter and food or water they would have taken them right then.

As far as the gun thing goes this is the lounge and we are learning from each other and heck no one else was posting to the thread

I really expected more to happen when I turned the dog's owner in. The cops wouldn't do anything because no one saw the guy beating his dog. The fact that he admitted it and was almost proud of it meant nothing. There are no units dedicated to animal welfare here, but I hear there are plenty down-state.

I really wish we had a program like FACE here. I got my little dog fixed at the local vet's and it was about $200. The cheapest vet with-in 50 miles charges $125, but I hear that vet isn't very good, a lot of dogs get infections and stuff. Many people around here are low income and I'm sure they would get the proper vet care for their animals if it was affordable.

I also think the local shelter's costs are too high. It's $95 for a dog, $120 for a puppy, and $80 for a cat. Of course, that includeds spaying or nutering and shots and a class on how to care for the animal. Wierd thing is the cost is the same for an animal that already has shots and is fixed.

But with free animals in the paper and pet store kittens selling for $35, who's going to adopt? Pure bred puppies sell at the LPS for $180, so why get a "mutt" at the pound, just spend the extra $60 and get a fancy dog!

BTW, no seriousness ment in the chastising about OT, hence the wink. Sorry if I came off bad.

I read a report when I was in school that said Florida saw a 25% drop in crime when they made it easier for people to get permits for guns.
I think police are there to enforce the law and shouldn't be the only ones responsible for protecting us. We should be able to do that as well. I don't have a gun and I don't want one, but I wouldn't have a problem with everyone else carrying one around. Criminals have them and don't know how to use them (lucky for us). Anyone that has been to a shooting range could stop him/her in a second. I think that is sure way to make them think twice about pulling out their gun. On a side note, most gun violence that I'm aware of is against another criminal.

i've been struggleing to take care of myself since i was about 16. never a free handout. put myself through college. bought my own cars. paid my own bills. pay rent. if i came into a lot of money i wouldn't give any away. only my mother would get her share.

7.8 billion humans at the last count, this has tripled in my lifetime..., with maybe another 1 billion uncounted.
maybe i would also invest in research on a super virus to knock back the human population as well ( as long as I had the antidote)
:)
i dunno about that; you reeled in shock the last time when i mentioned hitler, ninny!
