Given some FH fry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't doubt that just yet. Kamfa or Kamfamalau frys can look dead on the spot just like that. Even ZZkamfa frys...only time will tell.

Well you would know better than I do. Still only time will tell.

Took a few pics of their progress. They have grown well but it is hard to judge how much. Also they seem much bolder and will actively come up for food as I approach the tank . . .

Wow its been 3 months since I got these so I thought it was about time for an update. Originally I had 3 of the fry, but probably about a month after getting them they had grown to around and inch and were getting pretty feisty. Two of them constantly chased the smallest one. I came in form work one day and found the little one pretty beaten up with shredded fins so decided to split them all up. I gave one to a friend and then split the tank in 2 with an acrylic divider, so the remaining two were separated. I kept the small battered one and the largest one. Since then they have done well and the small one has completely recovered.Since then it has actually been the smallest one that seems most aggressive. He attacks the syphon when i clean the tank, pretty much head butts the glass when I am near the tank and I often find him trying to get passed the divider to get at the larger. Recently he has managed to damage around his mouth trying to force his way through the small gap between the divider and the glass. So I decided to give him away and just concentrate on one. I have moved my last one to 15G for now. He/she is now 3" and doing great. The only thing is I am not sure what type of FH if at all that is what I have as I have not seen any other fry that look quite like him, but then again I am so new to Flowerhorns and haven't seen many fry at all. His coloring can darken and lighten depending on mood. When he gets pissed the stripes and main row of spots show much clearer. Also I have noticed a red tinge to his hind lower quarter and his anal fin, but it doesnt show all the time. Any advice would be great. Here are a couple of clear shots from tonight . . .

Definitely Amphilophus not Flowerhorn.

Thanks Chris, I just had a search and found a pic on another thread of an Amphilophus Hogaboomarum Fry that is almost exactly the same so reckon you are pretty spot on with that call. I doubt it is a pure blood Hoga but it has some in it.
here he was @ 2.5"

Over the last few months he has been growing super quickly, so much so I built a new tank for him. I have to say he is the most entertaining fish I have owned. He constantly moves the tank decor around, gravel gets piled in one corner and his ceramic "house" gets dragged around.
