Screw legislation banning exotics...puppy mills, pet stores selling puppies, and backyard breeders should be banned.
yes... i agree... but this is about that dog that lived in a family.. and the family just decides they don't want him anymore... this is worse.

My animals are basically my children and I couldn't possibly imagine leaving them with a stranger at a shelter like they were possessions to be given away. If I ever had to get rid of them, which I NEVER would do, I'd find a home for them myself. I'm in grad school right now and have next to no time, but when I graduate and get my own place, I will never get an animal that isn't from a shelter. I have big plans of having a menagerie of adopted animals. The only reason that I got my current cat (who I've now had for 8 years) is because he'd been sitting in a tiny cage at the shelter for 9 months. He has FIV so no one wanted him... except me :)

well heres another one. about 2 years ago i gave my girlfriends piece of sh*t cousin a pitbull puppy cuz he swears he could take care of him. now that his lady left him he has no money and wants to take it to the pound! and to make it worse he picked up a female along the way so now he has two dogs that need homes & havent eaten in a week cuz he cant feed them. it breaks my heart that i cant take them but i already have dogs and theyre my responsibility. if theres anybody in sacramento or nor cal that will take them and give them a good home theyre free to pick up. both dogs are EXTREMELY lovable and affectionate. Born and raised with kids and cats.

our situation in asia is somewhat diferent
large purebred dogs are expensive not everyone can afford to take care of em

most of the time when people ask me what kind of dog would be good for em and i say jack russel pug dachsund or whatever small or medium breed they would say arent they small.

i would just say yes they are what are you planning to get a mastiff german shepherd or whatever big dog they say yes

i would just ask them what they would feed the dog and always to my dismay
they would say rice and leftovers

i always get in to trouble because of this type of conversations. people thinking im telling them to buy a smaller breed because i think they cant take care of em

truth is they cant i see people caging big dogs who needs lots of exercise
or seeing a whippet on leash the whole day

the saddest thing is people get pets because they can buy em they dont even think of what the pet would need

exercise grooming tranining and stuff

they just get em because they can

you are very wise... we often think people who cannot afford a pet do not take care of them properly... but yes the truth is money buys whatever notion or want they have at the moment.. but does not always quarentee safety or a good life to that pet.. i personally have seen that happen too.. just because they have the means..does not mean they have the heart..

i used to love going to dog shows a few years back since my uncle would usually be one of the judges

i enjoyed meeting intelligent and responsible pet owners but there are occasions when you meet ignorant people who pretend to know a lot
it sickens me

this is a big reason why people shouldn't give away animals. put a price on them, if someone has to pay for something they are more likely to treat it with the respect that the animal deserves.

i use to raise and breed belgians and quarter horses.. i worshiped the day a new baby was born... i would sleep in the barn until all was well.. until i found out that people especially show people change animals for the color...height.... etc like they change their underware... i stopped breeding... so many of them are headed for slaughter simply because of looks...... once i knew what was going on.. i stopped breeding almost everything..even fish i am careful about ..otherwise they are doomed.
