this is a big reason why people shouldn't give away animals. put a price on them, if someone has to pay for something they are more likely to treat it with the respect that the animal deserves.
absolutely... i get so upset about seeing a dog or pet horse in the classifieds free to good home... i know where that horse is going..meat market.. yes they will say they are going to a good home with children... but dogs could end up in labs and horses could end up on a plate in france or dogfood.. there are so many scammers... and meat price is 100% profit if you get it for free. And just not right to do to a pet that gave you or your kids their love and loyalty and now they are old or need extra care and the person gives nothing back.

omg thats sad. i spose we r all aware of the situation but its never flaunted in our faces. out of sight out of mind.
the only reason i ouldnt get a rescue dog would be because of ellie....but then thats y i havnt got a dog at all lol because i want her to be older so i can rescue animals and shes big enough to care for them aswell and fight them off just in case anything does happen...not that i would leave her with a dog but u no what i mean.

we rescued our cat out of a wall. when the local mall was being built we were walking passed one of the walls and heard this meowing. so managed to get this kitten out of the wall. it was a tight squeeze even though he was only 5 weeks old.
his face was smashed where the ppl punched him in to the small hole. he is elongated because he couldnt turn around in the wall so he would kinda back flip so when hes laid out now hes about a meter long.

his name is pepe le pew coz he looks like a skunk and he is now 18 years old and my big baby.
deaf as a post, got cist all over him but they rnt cancerous and hes not in pain and hes all manky looking. but my baby none the less lol

So we went to get a shelter dog. I guess my wife must have called them and dialed 19. We got a 5 yo Perfectly Trained, House broken, great with kids and cats (one of which is evil), dog. To top it off a breeder friend said he meets all the standards for AKC American Eskimo. He's also the only dog I'm even aware of that you can eat on the floor with him and he won't steel your food, even if left un-attended he will sit and wait till you hand him the food or the bowel.

The only non shelter pet we have (except fish) is a stray kitten who adopted us. He is the one in my avatar 2 years later.
