and as Bderik said about smaller 55 gallons being built with 1/2" glass its because its taller not long but tall and if u go over 18" tall u need 3/8" and if u go 21" or more tall u need 1/2"

I have a 35G, 36"x13"x18"high. With 1/4" glass and 1/6". keep in minds its over 30 years old.

or something like that lol not exactly sure the measurments but the taller u go the thicker the glass needs to be there fore im going the tallest i can with 1/4" with the proper bracing

If you have glass thicker than 1/2" would you need to assemble is on the stand? Due to weight.

heres a pic of Gmans DIY tank 6ft by 2ft by 1ft and mines only going to be 1/2 ft longer and 1/2 ft taller and his tank is made with 1/4"
