On a glass tank if the vinegar and razor blades didnt take it off,the glass is etched.

Thats not right.

Vinegar is only a very mild acid for removing calcification/ lime scale, and many stains will persist after it's use even with a razor.

Best way I have found that always works is 1 part HCL (hydrochloric acid) to 10 parts H2O (water).
Apply in a sprayer and mist on the stain and wait about 30 secs. Then wipe off with a clean damp cloth.(wear gloves). Repeat again, and combine with a razor if neccessay. This should do the trick and have never needed to go more than 5:1 on anytype of calcium / lime stain on any glass surface.

Yeah, i guess everyone has some left over from simpler days of fish keeping :)

thanks for all your help fellow MFK's i will try some of your ideas this weekend as im working all week, Thank you so much :)

Another thing to remember is if you use water to dilute anything(HCL in water, etc) use distilled water. Otherwise you will just leave water deposits after you wipe it away.

i have two used 50g tanks that have the same type of stains on them. so far i havn't found anything to take it off (including some pretty nasty chemicals).
So......., some time has passed, how did you eventually go with this?
I tried some but i have not been able to find a few of the chemicals :(
