I think 30" of depth is plenty, I'd go for the footprint area, especially for rays.

My 225 is only 24 deep and that is working fine for my Aro and Cats etc...IMO

I would build the frame so the Plexi had 3" of inset then after the tank completely cured, I'd set the Plexi with 3M 5200 fast cure...

3" eh? how in the world would you make it 3"? I dont have a clue as to how to rip a 2 x 4 like that! I dont know maybe im not thinking outside the box!!!

Have you tried using Google Sketchup? takes a little bit to get use to it but its a great free tool.

So... I found a guy who is going to cut my 2x4's. hes going to rip them all down to 3.5" and im going to use all 4" to seal to the tank.

Ok so,

I went to the glass thickness guide on the top of the page and besides the "biotch fest" that happened up there, I really didnt get that much out of the thread... So im looking into pricing out the cost of glass, but needed some imput from you all...


So 96" x 36" (92" x 32" is the actual glass size that i will order) (88" x 28" viewable).. Is 1/2 inch thick ok for this build (also this will be a plywood build only the front will be glass).

Also i wanted to know what type of glass should i use. I was thinking tempered, but i wanted to get some feed back and let me know what you think?

Used 1/2" thick on the one below (see below pictures), and the tank is approx 54 inches wide.

Thicker may be better, @ 3/4", and if you have it "flat polished" all the way around (beveled) i.e. all four sides, it will handle and install better with no sharp jagged edges
