Alright guys, i'm FINNALY lookin to upgrade, and am in the mkt for a 240-300. I am thinking about ordering just the tank, from GC.com. and building the stand myself. Has anyone ordered from these guys before? Good or bad experience? I've heard a couple negative things, but thought i'd get some of you guys advice before dropping all that $$$ and ordering. Any input would be great!

i have and have had good results with GC's. But i did some price checking a while back, and you can get a tenecor acrylic for about the same price.. Much clearer viewing window & much easier to move around.

I bought my 500g glass tank from them and built the stand myself. I am very impressed with the tank but shipping was a nightmare.

Really? an acrylic from Tenecor for same price as a glass from GC? Or you mean a Tenecor acrylic is about the same as an acrylic from GC, and Tenecor is just a better brand?

Shipping cost? or customer service/communication?
Because yeah the the only bad things i've heard so far is about the shipping being a pain!

I live 1hr away from them and will never buy a tank from them. Just google reviews for them and you will see all of the nightmares that fallow. I personally know 5 people that have bought tanks from them that cracked within the first year. There warrenty is crap and they do not stand behind there product. One local guy bought several of there 50g longs and one of them cracked while setting on his floor the night he brought it home. It never even had water in it.

No i got a quote from both of them.

starfire glass from GC's & lids shipped

Acylic with lids & black bottom <- big plus!! shipped

and i saved $140.00 by going with tenecor. this was last year

dont get me wrong though, glass cages tank i bought a while back was great, and i had no problems. i only kept the tank for about a year though.

Wow! i just looked at some reviews on GC, and I don't think i'll risk buying from them. Alot of horror stories. Not all bad reviews but, definitly more bad than good! I guess i can't go wrong w/ Tenecor. I just figured glass would be alot cheaper...

I have a 340 custom tank from GC that is a little over two years old and have no issues with it. Over built my own custom stand though. Sides and tops are 5/8 inch and bottom is 3/4 inch glass. Have heard of horror stories with acrylic blowing out seems also. So all I can say is I can't complain about mine, with the exception it is one heavy MOFO. I do know when I go larger it will be acrylic for that reason. With rays though they do tend to scratch up the acrylic.
