Glasscages.com aquarium question

Don't give up. Sh*t happens.

I just slapped a 2' level on the empty "broken" tank. WTF? The thing was freakin' perfect level. The board under the tank was extremely solid and flat.

I also placed a level on the two 135's.

The one on the stand sitting on the particle board shelf is also sitting perfectly level. The 135 that I did put the 3/4" styrofoam under is the only one of the three that I can not get a decent reading on. This less then a month old tank is severely bowed and is clearly higher on the front top edge in the middle then on either end. There is no where along the top of the from panel where the 2' level will even rest flat!!

Now I am livid and think that the quality of these tanks are total garbage. I will call the company tomorrow and inform everyone if glasscages.com stands behind their workmanship or not. This is pathetic and I hope that they do make "right" on this.

I accept that the manufacturer can not know exactly what went down with the tanks after they were loaded from their truck onto mine. It is also important to understand that it is virtually impossible to detect this kind of imperfection when you are picking up your tanks at a truck stop. Regardless of how this turns out, I would advise anyone who buys a tank from them to bring a level along on the pickup to make sure that you are noy getting a lemmon like I did!

If your Lowe's sells the same storage racks as mine, there's no way I would have trusted one of those to hold a 90g tank. It's possible that the surface you had it on was flexing, even though it was level, causing tremendous stresses on the tank.

Obviously Level is not the problem. Keep in mind you are checking level on an "empty" tank.

Why Not ?

If this is true, save the tank for the small claims court proceedings.

Remember, decisions made in anger rarely end the way you want them to. Sleep on it.

I don't know about a level , but, if you are buying a tank from anyone you better take a good look at it before you accept it.

mmmmmm.... I was thinking of purchasing a tank from glasscages.com as well. After doing a bit of research though, I was leaning against it - this just kind of confirmed it for me... I have seen a couple positive posts regarding glasscages.com tanks - but have seen countless negative posts. Top 5 negative things I have heard:
1. HORRIBLE, like worse than AOL, customer service
2. Tank was broken when it arrived and they charged me to ship it back to them, and then again to ship me the new tank
3. Horribly messy silicone work
4. Shipping date not met - horror storys include 1 guy who had his brother take a 2 hour drive to pick the tank up and they were 6 hours late delivering it (and they didnt call to let them know!) and then there was another guy who was told it would be there on Satruday at some time, and was called the Thursday before by the driver and told he needed to be there in 1 hour to pick it up or he wouldnt be able to get it for another ;ike another 2-4 weeks (dude was at work and the drive to pick-up was like 1.5 hours)
5. If tank breaks for whatever reason (including during the time it was still under warranty) glasscages tries to put it back on the end user stating it was your fault it broke for whatever reason and refuses to replace/refund

Bottom line - I know they have good prices, but I guess you get what you pay for - LAST thing to cut corners on is the tank, IMO...

i was going to buy there 240 galong long this summer but i am not sure now they seem a little sketchy to me does anyone know of other tank makers ?

I had the same idea as you and looked at the storage racks at Lowe's thinking I could use them for tanks. The racks typically have metal posts in the corners, with metal rails in between, that support a sheet of particle board. If the kind you used is the kind I saw, then it's unsupported in the middle, it just has the steel rails going around the perimeter. The included piece of particle board, even with a 1/2" piece of wood added, is just not rigid enough to support an aquarium, even though the box may say it can support 4892347 pounds per shelf or whatever. With a regular plastic framed tank it might not be as big a deal, but with a flat glass bottomed tank like yours, any flexibility in the surface on the bottom will stress the tank severely.

It's possible, but unlikely that they shipped you 2 out of 3 bad tanks. I think it's more likely that the problems are caused by putting them on things that aren't designed to hold aquariums.

agreed but im still worried about my glass cages 240 that i just bought used and am about to fill up for the first time......

when ever you place a tank on a stand.
1 make sure the floor is level
2 make sure the stand is not twisted
3 if the tank is going to be heavyer than you are stand on it and walk around on it listen for creeking
4 make sure the platform is level
5 use a thick piece of styroroam to even out the weight
