I must take this opportunity..

I bought some acrylic sheets and a 90 gal from them. I can't say anything about the quality/build of their aquariums, but I had a total nightmare in dealing with them service wise.

They literally screwed up every single aspect of the transaction they possibly could. The worst was the coordination of the delivery, I was suppose to meet them at a show at a hotel in the city. So I spent days before coordinating with a group of people to help me, a truck rental, and with glasscages. This entailed no less that 6 fone conversations the thursday and friday before this show. Well, they never mentioned that they were missing the smaller of the two sheets. So they brilliantly decided not to send anything, even though they had possesion of the 400lb piece that i was renting a truck for. So i'm there bright and early with a crew and a truck, they make me stand around for 30 min before they decided to even admit they never brought the pieces. The owner was there, Tom, and in his astounding logic, all he could keep repeating like a parrot was "Well, you never talked to me! ".

This was the worst thing and was icing on the cake after all the other screw ups, which were minor in comparison. They did at least "make up" for it by using their own truck to ship these pieces straight to my house. But then what they didn't tell me was that they told all the other customers in the area to meet the truck in front of my house and gave them my address and phone number. With out my approval of course. So there was a commotion in front of my house for most the day.

I wouldn't use them again if I had other options.

They made your house a pickup/drop off point? Thats pretty bad. The more reviews that I hear about this company the more I have to laugh. I'm glad that I found another alternative.

Exactly! I couldn't believe the audacity of them to do that. Just to hand out a customers phone and address to any other ol' yahoo. I had people banging on my door and calling my phone through out the day that day. I ended up putting a sign in my front yard after they left just to get some peace.

They gave out your phone number as well?

whats funny about glasscages is that Beth (his wife?) is the actual owner, not Tom. on one of the threads bashing their customer service there was a link to the better business beauro page on them. Beth is listed as the actual owner - everything is in her name.

apparently they sometimes go by the name Twin Oaks aquariums/terrarariums.

wow. that is bad.

I just received a phone call from Donna at glasscages. My tank shipped today. She was going to give me the tracking number but I was in the car at the time so I asked her to e-mail it to me, no problem. Tank should be in Charleston on Wednesday. I'm planning on picking it up Thursday or Friday.

the problem I have with sloppy silicone work is that sloppy silicone work means poor attention to detail and potentially ppor craftsmanship.

that sort of neglegence may lead to a leaking tank down the road.

and when dealing with huge volumes of water, that sort of lack of attention to detail could prove to work out very badly.

when you buy a big tank, you want it to last virtually indefinitely. if anything, huge tanks demand attention to detail when building them. they need to be built exactly right.

with a tank with sloppy seals, you just don't know. its a big chance to take to save a few bucks IMO.
its not the seams that are the problem. they are as good as any. yes i do have one. its the silicon that doesnt get wiped off the other surfaces. no biggy, took 5 mins on my tank.

I am sure most of their tanks are really good. but some are bad. on one thread I saw on another forum, a poster had just purchased a 20g nano reef tank from them (done rimless) and the silicone work was awful. they posted pics and the other members of that board said it looked "like a 5 year old had done it"

obviously, this person was upset, called to ask about a refund/replacement etc. and was told off. he was pissed.

as mentioned, it seems that a lot of their negative press seems to be from custom orders. if you don't get exactly what you want, and you call them about it, they apparently don't help you. at least some of the time. those are the times everyone hears about.

and that pisses people off. after all, they paid for a tank made to their specs and when its not done right or done properly (sloppy) they get mad when they are not helped afterwards. thats probably why there are so many negative threads all over the fish forums about them..

i totally agree but in reality, they should do it right the first time so all that negative feedback isnt out there in the first place. if they took good care in making sure all their tanks are done well the first time they would have many more customers because im sure many are lost because of all the negative feedback
