Have you ever heard of Glo-Fish? it is a favorable alternative for those dyed fish. dyeing fish is painful for te fish and fades away eventually. Glo-fish are genetically engineerd to "glo" under a black light. when they are bred they keep their color. vote for which one you favor.

No lasting harm was done to glofish. They are much more preferred when it comes to trends without harm involved but certainly not for aesthetic reasons. I just don't like the flashy fluorescent colors IMO.

i refuse to vote b/c you don't have an option in which one can state they dislike both

i support glofish.
but recently i have been starting to think dyed fish isnt a cruel as i used to think it was. a tattoo is probably not so bad when thinking about the fate that meats most fish. a death in a toxic environment because people dont understand bioload or water changes. or if they would food fish they were be disemboweled then there heads taken off, or feeders given to fish that would attempt to rip them apart or swallow them whole, all the while the tank owner grinning about the brutality of his fish.

so really i think the worst part about dyed is a weakened immune system and the fading.

i dislike both.

While I personally would never keep either, I keep Glo Danios in stock at the LFS while I'd never bring in painted fish.
