"Glowfish" Danios

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Trust me, I've thought about breeding them myself too. i studied the genetics behind it, the legal ramifications, etc., but I just never got around to actually trying it yet. I've always thought that it would be cool to have like a 20 gal tank with black gravel, the light that makes them glow, and a big school of them in there, but it would just cost too much if I were to buy enough of them to fill the whole tank. That would be too much money wasted on danios that I just want for the fun of it, as like a gag tank... They can go for as much as $17 a piece here in NH...

oh dang that's a steap price. mix a few with zebras if you really like the idea, maybe you'll get lucky. it'd be awesome to make it work

My glofish are dying I want some specifics on water temp & Ph please. Can anyone help me. My tank is 55 Gal I've had it set for 6 mos. many tatra A couple Rafeal cats I am certain I have a good balance with only 8 glofish. Can someone tell me whatz up!!!

Care is the same as a zebra danio. Very hardy fish. Not to picky about temps and ph as long as you are close to neutral and not too warm (<82). Also your raf cat may be munching on them.

I think theyre illegalin my state, No were to buy them, not that I wouldnt want to. Although, One thing I want to do is make a feeding video with them, turn out the lights in the tank and room, drop them in and watch them disapear, but I dont know since they are genetically altered if they would do harm to the fish that ate them.

i dont think you would at 7-8 dollars a fish

If they make a GLO DOG, I want a green one.

Technically, they have. Just not for commercial sale.
I've heard that glofish are automatically infertile due to altered genetic problems.

Not really...glofish are really fertile and theres some threads in other forums about someone find some pink fry. Maybe its pink one were fertile but not sure about green and orange glofish.

Here in ny they are 8.99 in my LPS, not a fair price if u ask me. i get no joy out of the Glofish, and i dont like them. but feeding them to my oscars with the lights off and a blacklight would be awesome!
People messing with science and the stepping stones of life could have bad outcomes.

glowlight tetras are danios mixed with jelly fish DNA
I know this was posted a long time ago, but no one said anything, so I felt the need to...
Glowlights and glofish are two completely different things. Glowlights are a naturally occurring tetra species, not another name for the genetically altered danios
