Dovii are pretty much a dime a dozen I would go with a umbee if only for the factor that they are not common.

Id have to disagree... Dovii are a dime a dozen, but a well kept one in a large tank, fed well with amazing colors and a specified eco system is NOT a dime a dozen.

A full grown male Dovii is much harder to find then the little ones.

Umbie hands down. Really though, you shouldn't let us tell you what you want

I wasnt really asking for your guys to tell me which one to get i was more curious as to people that have these fish what there opinion is on each species. Just to see how they enjoyed these fish

Because they are rare and take years to get 2ft-ish like that one. That one is a prime example of umbie IMO. If you get one, hope it looks that good when you grow it up. But it will require paitence as these fish don't get 2ft over night.

IMO it depends on tank size.. Plan on getting a 300g plus and have many small tanks to grow umbies out seperately then get the umbie.

But with dovii it's a given you buy a couple and you're gonna get a male. Or there are places that sell larger ones that you know/they can tell is a male. The umbie it's just a hope you get a male somewhere in there.

BTW even in a 1k gallon + IDK know if the two together would work.. :grinno:

What would I rather have? Umbie, but I have small patience for growouts and sometimes it seems hard to get a male. Large juvi males sell for multiple hundreds if you can find one for sale. Like I said dovii is easier to obtain and only requires 6x2 foot tank rather than 8x30" at least for the umbie. Large dovii of good F0 or F1 quality is just as impressive. Had a F0 12" dovii and it was

had them both and kept the Dovii. Incredible fish with tons of personality. Get a dovii and sit back and watch the beast grow!!!!
