Hello - I have a goby dragon currently in a freshwater tank, but am putting together a brakish tank for him. The petstore never informed me that this was a brakish water fish and not freshwater... I was wondering what the ideal tank mates for these guys are? Any information or advice would be appreciated. :)

Thanks.

Mine is in with a columbian shark, they ignore each other quite well.

Knight gobys, columbian sharks, candy striped gobys, bumble bee gobys. My monos like to chase him but I have plenty of hiding spots for mine so he is doing great with them in the tank. These guys are very very sensitive to water quality so please make sure your water is properly cycled and do your weekly water changes. If you see him come to the surface and try to breathe air then you know something is wrong with your water.

All I can say in terms of tankmates is guppies and bumblebee gobies. I haven't kept anything else with them.
However, you asked the ideal tank for them. They need a large tank, brackish, fine substrate (sand is best), and plenty of cover (driftwood, plants, anything to hide under). They aren't aggressive fish, so smaller brackish fish are generally safe.
Ghost shrimp are also fine. The goby won't eat them, and they can live in brackish water. The same goes for some species of snails.
The specific gravity should be 1.005 or higher. Freshwater is not an option.
What size is the tank you're setting up for the goby?

ok its freak out time--------i have kept 2 gsp's with my dragon for a few years now with no problems. They sleep in the same cave all piled up on each other. It all matters what the disposition of the tank mates is. That will determine what you can keep with what. i have several freinds that have dragon goby's now and most of them keep guppies with them. And one has 3 dragons and a few sharks and that is apretty cool tank.

What kind of sharks? I've never really heard anything about brackish sharks before.

Columbian sharks, silver tipped sharks, black finned sharks, five finned sharks, all the same. Fresh as juvenile, needs brackish at minimum as adult for longest and healthiest life.

Hybridtheory, very cool. Reason I asked is I just added four GSP to the tank and curious as to how they will do.
