I picked up a goby today, it was labelled as 'mystery goby' I've currently got it with my South Americans. It will be moved soon to my quarantine tank. I didn't notice the scratches until I put it in.
I'd like to know what kind it is, if it's freshwater or brackish. If it turns out to be brackish I'll find a suitable home for it.

It's about 7.5-8" long, kind of dark grey to blue. Here's some pictures.

From what I've read some types of sleeper gobies are fairly peaceful, they just can't be kept with fish small enough to fit in their mouth. It'd be very helpful to know what kind it is.

Looks like a Jade Goby. They get massive, can be lightly territorial, but overall it may depend on the fish. I had one a long time ago that was very timid. I have a massive one now, that was aggressive when it was younger, but now just doesn't acknowledge anything else in the tank. I keep it in with large cichlids.

If it is a jade goby... (it lacks the pretty colors, but it may get them once its healed up)...

Expect a very large, very hungry fish that will eat anything. It will be the first to come for food, and the last to leave. They are smart, like most large cichlids. Mine is non aggressive, but isn't afraid to push others out of the way when it comes to food. Oh, and they take huge dumps.

I took some better pictures now that it's settled in and the color is much more bold; IMG_1305.JPGIMG_1310.JPGIMG_1311.JPGIMG_1312.JPG

Does it still look like a jade goby? I still kind of think it's oxyeleotris marmorata, but I could be wrong.
