Goby identification

Looks like a jade to me. Its def not a marbled, my avatar is a marbled sleeper goby.

Ok, thanks. Is 350 gallons good? How active is this fish? I couldn't really find much info on it. I feed my South Americans a diet of bloodworms, silversides, krill, muscles and chopped earthworms. Would that me suitable? I also put in slightly cooked zucchini, peas and spinach.

That is a jade goby, he can live in that tank but he might be very aggressive. Gobies are weird, each one has a completely different personality. I had a knight goby that terrorized a tank full of African cichlids more than three times his size, but a worker at my LFS has one that wouldn't harm a fly. So it kind of just depends on the fishes personality. These fish will just kind of hover around the tank except when they chase something, then they will go warp speed to attack it's quarry. The diet you describe is good, but it will need harder water. That bichir I saw will need harder water too.

Jared T, that fish is not a goby, it is a cold water darter. There are too many types of darters for me to ID it, but I am 99% sure it is a darter.

My water is actually fairly hard, my pH is around 8 and the hardness is about 16 or so.
It seems to be doing fine, very shy, it's been hanging around my bichirs. Haven't gotten it to eat yet, I tried feeding bloodworms and earthworms this morning, wasn't interested.

If it is a dormitator maculatus which i think it is they are not killer from my experience. i raised one from 3" to 10" 2 year old with my sa/ca cichlids. never had a problem with aggression. i would say they are massive thcik bodied fish and garbage disposals. eat and eat and eat if u let them. they are more active swimmer than ur sit and log around goby if u ask me. mine came up to eat and i use to pet him. hmmm i hope i see another for sale soon now i want one.

Most darters only get three inches, but they need a lot of oxygen and water flow. Snails are a treat. They stick their heads in the shells and pull the flesh out. Darters aren't sold at stores as far as I know. You will have to catch them from a creek. They like sandy substrate.
