I would get a cheap timer for the lights
clean your tank several times the week prior to your absence
Instruct your friend to feed like 2 times a week, and to keep the water topped off (if you can trust them to change water have them do it every other week)

I would think with light feedings the fish would be ok with few or no water changes for 6 weeks.

Yea what I was thinking was to cut the frozen krill into pieces and have him feed that every 4 days. Or something to that (e/a)?ffect.

So what I want to do is build an automatic water changer. I THINK I have seen some at my LFS. They looked like pvc pipes with 2 elbows and a ball valve with a hose on the bottom of it.

Is this really an auto water changer? If so are the only steps I have to do is attach the pvc to the hose?

Help please!:)

I cant do that. lol. My parents would kill me!

Show them the finished result (after the hole is closed up). That is the point in plumbing everything through such a small hole.

for an auto water changer, you need to get rid of the excess water some how. You are going to have to figure that out before considering anything else.

Your best bet is to scrap the idea and do several large changes before leaving and plan on doing it again when you return. Label and date sandwich bags with that days food in it. Indicate which tank the food goes into.

True.
For an auto w/c'er, can I do it with a powerhead? If so how would I attach the hose to the powerhead?

I was reading the fallowing post and to be honest you could buy whats said to be an A/W Changer but still really is not, Cause everyone would have it. If your thinking to the point of not ever touching the aquarium and that it will do the water change on its own, you are getting into complex stuff expecaily if its a stand alone aquarium. I have built an Automatic water changer that was used on a 4000 basement Tank and its a great set up for that because the water is pumped out side. with your set up you would need a hose to do this. And way to much work and money so I was thinking about it today.

Do you have a Canister Filter?

My 75 is not drilled, and yes I do have a canniester.
