I just set up a new 150 gallon 5x2x2 tank, in the rear right and left is an overflow setup. It came with a sump system, I currently have it set up and running. I find the sump system to be very noisy. Will there be any problems if I use 2 Fluval 405's, one on each side to replace the sump? Would the canister system be quieter?

Why not utilize both?

Is the noise from the overflow or the pump? We may be able to assist in reducing the noise rather then eliminating the sump setup - personally, the sump is superior for the bio and the canisters will do great for mech

It's the overflow that is making the most noise. They are both only half full, it's the constant water fall sound that is crazy. The pump in the sump is not very noisy.

I agree!

I run both sump system and canisters on all my tanks. The filters complement each other. My canister/closed loop system is used in the deep areas to get water flow down where the poo is. My wet dry is used primarily for a bio filter and to skim the surface to get the oily floating stuff off the surface. I put in a couple pads to help out with mechanical filtration too. Also a great place for heaters and stuff.

Do a search on filter noise, you will get a lot of ideas. Most of the noise on my last set up was coming from inside my tank. I just put some self adhesive weather stripping between the glass cover and the top of my tank. I can hardly hear it now! Cost about $5.

i feel ya , one of my tanks was the same , i ditched the sump and went with 2 canisters .
i am very sensitive to noisy equipment and for me , eheim canister is the ONLY filter quiet enough .

Like people suggested, there are methods to try to quieten your sump...

But removing the sump and using canisters is also an option...

Neither approach is a bad idea and I think you should do whatever you are the most comfortable with... as either will be able to 'properly' filter your tank.

I have 2 405s on my 125g and 1 205 on my 20g and can't hear any of them even in the middle of the night when all the tvs are off

if your overflow sump is way too loud you can always upgrade your sump pump to make way less noise. the noise your hearing is most likely water + air getting sucked into overflow because your current pump is too weak

try a durso standpipe that should quiet it up.... or a cj standpipe . i have a fx5 and a sump the only thing i hear is the fx5 humming . do a search lots of site that shows a diy standpipe. which standpipe are you using right now?
