Going from a Sump to a Canister system

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Trying not to be a pain here but could you get a pic of top view on the overflows?

With this we can give the best options as we will know how the overflows are setup

This is looking down the left overflow, the right one is the same set up.

Your not being a pain, keep telling me what you need. I really want the help.

thank, Mark

try topping off the intake with a small piece of course foam pre filter. not so small that it falls in but big enough to just sit ontop of and inside the pipe slightly.

this will slow down the water slightly and it wont take so much air with it.

it also acts as a prefilter so dont forget to clean it out from time to time.

i did this to my sump run tank and my GF was happier. which means im happier!

Hmmm your setup is fine so I am going to assume the following

I am assuming your pump is returning too much flow and thus the drains are suckling in too much air. Your pipes can probably handle the flow but the noise is unbearable

Try adding a ball-valve to the return pump hose, before the T split, and tone down the return until the noise is eliminated or bearable.

If you could get
1. the model and make of the pump
2. diameter of drain pipes
we can figure out the flow - you stated that your tank is 150?

However I am pretty confident that if you add a ball valve and adjust the pump return until the noise is eliminated your problem will be solved.

The pump is a Danner mag-drive model 7 (700gph), it only about 3 months old. The drain pipes are 1-1/4 inch diameter, and yes it's a 150 with a 20 gallon sump. I was hoping for a better turn over rate, it's at 4.6 times an hour. Is the turn over rate still good? In the past I liked to get around 6.

Mark

Today I made and installed a durso on each side, this has cut down the noise to a very acceptable level. I made two durso pipes and the cost for everything was under $10.

Thank you all for the help!

Turn over rate is just a guide. What's important is how clean your water is. What are your water parameters? If your water is clean with the turn over rate of 4X then your set. No reason to increase it.
