Ok so we're going to Maui in November. It's just around the corner so I need to get working on our agenda. For those that have been, what are the must-see/do things in Maui? We'll be there for a week and are looking for all the cool outdoor/sightseeing/adventure stuff.
thanks. wind surfing sounds pretty sweet, but i dont know squat about surfing lol. any of those touristy vendor companies that take you places you recommend? or should i just do everything on my own? looking at trip advisor for ideas...
Go to the luau's! They are really fun. Ive been to Maui once and it was fantastic! There is a tour boat where it takes you and other's out to sea. The boat has an underwater viewing cabin where you can see the fish and you can go snorkeling.
I was going to say "DO NOT drive to Hana"....it's a terrible winding 2-lane road that can go on for hours, depending on who is ahead of you.
Check out the huge fish market in Hilo. There is also a waterfall just out of Hilo. You've got to check out the volcanos--Kilaeua and Mouna Kea. Take a helicopter ride. Take the boat ride to Molokini and go snorkeling. There's a a big resort in Kona where you can swim with dolphins. Go parasailing off Ka'anapali Beach. Do a dinner cruise. There are tours on submarines/glass bottomed boats where you can view the ocean life. Do the bike ride down Haleakala...while trying to catch the sunrise from the top. The silver sword plant only grows on Haleakala (at least that's what I've been told)...you may also spot a nene goose there (Hawaii's state bird) There are all kinds of tours that rent bikes for the ride down that mountain. There is also a tour where you can go swimming with rays at night....they video you. http://adventureinhawaii.com/bigisland_mantarays.htm
Have some macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup on top.

One of my best friends just moved to Maui a few months ago.
He does H.R. for a couple of businesses, one of them is called "Beach Club Maui". Unfortunately I don't have a link and if you do a Google search there are a lot of different places called "Beach Club Maui".
PM me if you are interested in checking them out, I'm going to give my friend a call in a few hours (it's 4:00 AM there now).
I'd suggest hiking. You'll find some truly beautiful, secluded areas, awesome beaches & snorkeling you'd otherwise have to charter a boat to get to. http://www.trails.com/activity.aspx?area=10037

It's a beautiful drive. Parts of it aren't for the faint of heart though. If visitors do some proper planning beforehand (sites to hit, mile markers to watch out for, etc.) and plan to spend the whole day with the drive & sightseeing, it can be great.

Got to Haleakala and watch the sun rise. Uhm maybe some deep see fishing? Go to lahiana an watch the sunset and the beautiful girls lol. If your going to be by Kihei def go find the fish and chips shack. Def the best fish and chips EVER. Also snorkeling or diving is fun. Last time I was there I saw turtles, rays etc
