I was going to say "DO NOT drive to Hana"....

You will have a blast J and have plenty of photos to take!

Regarding the road, my experience in the past was to always drive it yourself with others. Its all about the journey and not actually getting there. Its about stopping at any given moment for a photo, local snack, or hike. I would also suggest you eat the local seafood daily, if you like seafood that is...

One thing I never had time to do were the lava caves, perhaps something to check out?

Might be there or might not be there. The end of November you might get lucky enough to check out the migration of the hump backs. I think they give birth to their young in Maui. (Not sure). Lahaina is where I seen them when I was 15. Was a must see sight.
The "Needle" is a rock formation that was pretty cool to check out. Haleakala is a cold place in the morning, so bring a jacket and/or a blanket. The sun rise is beautiful at 10,000 feet ASL. Eat at Zippy's, Try the Surf Pac.

Um.....Just Spend a day and try getting lost. You'll come across some cool stuff that way.

im not sure if their are peacock bass on this island but if their are fish for them

so if u take the road to hana, make sure to rent a convertible or something similar. or else youll be car sick. if your staying in a condo or someplace with a kitchen then make sure to stop at costco when your leaving from the rental car place to get food. as far as snorkeling, i really liked a place called honolua bay and makuleia bay. be sure to buy some frozen peas to feed the fish there. Molikini, i felt wasnt that cool as it was very deep so not much to see. However, on that trip we also went to turtle island and that was very cool to see all the turtles. For the luau i think i went to the one at the marriott. Hey free drinks are never bad, right? Be sure to head into lahaina and walk around there. There is the biggest single tree , ive ever seen there. not tall, but just big.

Heh... interesting note about that: Last time I was in Hawaii (just over two years ago on the big island) there was a wildlife advocacy group that would post up on the most trafficked snorkeling spots, and if they saw you feeding peas to the fish there, would stop you and lecture you about fish health... about how the peas have a high chance of blocking their digestion and causing bloat.

Rather awkward.

Keep in mind, it wasn't illegal or prohibited in any way to feed peas. Just a private group taking it upon themselves to lecture folks.

We did try using a normal fish pellet as well, but that doesn't work so well when you're trying to snorkel with a ziploc of pellets.

yea, u can just drive up. if i remember, i think u park along the road and walk down. Now, u dont have to feed peas (maybe another vegetable) but definitely do it. Its crazy looking back and seeing what seems like all the fish in the ocean following u. ha ha. Whats even funnier is find some other people snorkeling and throw a handful of vegetables at them and they will freak out as all the fish swarm around them. HA HA HA HA HA :headbang2

That's funny because peas are actually a cure for bloat and clearing digestive tracts, lol.
