they are aufwuchs grazers and very sensitive to No2 and 3.. Most are poorly cared for by the petstores, they don't last long once you bring them home .

Don't buy any gold nugget under 3"
Don't have any other pleco in the tank.. my advice

How many people on this forum have a live Gold Nugget 7" or larger that they didn't buy over 3-4" in size?

Let your LFS know you are interested, they shoud be able to special order one, but it may take some time. You can also get one online, but then youhave the risks of buying it online.

when i had a gold nugget it would eat cucumber, carrot, bloodworms,wafers and all sorts it was not fussy at all, i sold it 6 months ago though as i had no space for it, great fish though

they are occasionally available here in Oz but their price is over $1000

You are lucky you live in the land of the Platypus! Someday I will see one(and maybe smuggle it back).

i have been thinking about buying a gold nugget pleco. I have heard that they are carnivores and I have heard that they are herbivores. Which are they?

Do not buy one with a sucked in stomach. Look for one with a FAT belly.It seems the sucked up ones always die

I got one from snookn about 2 months ago. Great fish! It mostly eats bloods worm, sinking pellets, an the algae off the tank an does not show any intrest in zucchini or lettuce. He has become very active all day an scavages a lot. Very cool fish. Spend most of the day in a lava rock but also like to hangin on a piece of driftwood. If you have a chance you should get one.

you cant tell by the pic but there is a powerhead pointed on the piece of wood.

When I see them they are usually $35 for smaller ones and $50 for larger. I have seen some stores asking for $75 or more but for some reason they tend to have the same fish for quite a while...
