Gold Saum

Green Terror is a common name for both Aequidens rivulatus and Andinoacara stalsbergi.

Gold saum is the generic name for Aequidens rivulatus with the orange finnage. There is a silver saum version of Aequidens rivulatus the where the orange finnage is white.

This is tends to be mostly accurate; the only aspect in which I do not agree is the Gold Saum's genus, the genus is Andinoacara, and is no longer the previously accepted genus of Aequidens. There are different variants of Andinoacara rivulatus, but the Andinoacara stalsbergi is a completely different species, although they are all related. White Saum and Silver Saum are the same terminology, as well as or Gold, Orange, or Red Saum. I am just trying to minimize potential confusion, and provide more clarity. :)

I'm new to this site and i would like to just put up my first thread. I was wondering how nice of a Gold Saum I have. I have had in for about 1 1/2 years. He's about 7 to 8 inches. I feed him a ranged diet of different pellets with occasional meal worms. He is currently in a 90 gallon with some of his fry from his last spawn.(Sadly there will be no more spawning as for he killed his mate.) He is very active and will follow you from one side of the tank to the other. I am hoping to get an opinion from some of the experts here on MFK;).

Are you going to get another female? Kind of sucks he killed her. Would you grow-out another one, purchase another adult, or just stick with the male?

For the last week I've been debating trading away my jack for a green terror, and these green terror threads keep coming up. I keep seeing how amazing they are and every one of the owners commenting on how much of a finger-chasing glass-banging lively fish they are. They are exactly what I wanted for my "wet pet" that I thought my jack would be, but it looks like the GT may be my best bet because I don't have a tank big enough to house a texas/amphilophus/oscar.

Nice fish. I'd get another female for him if I were you. I will always have a GT in one of my tanks. Very interesting when full size and breeding. I'm currently in the planning stages for my 240 gallon and am growing out a pair in my 90. They are such a good looking fish in my opinion.

Very nice, great form, sounds as if he has a great personality and his color is mind blowing!

I might get another female for him but for now i want to try and max out his size and coloration. I currently have one of his fry in a growout tank with another young gold saum and I plan on breeding them. I will try and post better pictures of him and maybe a few of his fry later.
