Who else is keeping Gold Tulip Eels?

I started a thread like this a few months ago, and only 1 or 2 other people were keeping one, and one of them has since died (The fish)

Are they really this rare??

i have one,i dont know how rare they are, but mine is the only one i have seen,,,never see them in stores,,

They seem quite rare...

I saw one years ago, but my cichlids killed it. The one that deceased on MFK was being kept in brackish water (a mistake) The other one on MFK is floating around somewhere in one of the tanks of a MFK guy.
The other 3 I have seen, are mine. And then yours.

That's pretty much it. You're only the 3rd guy I know who has/had one. How big is yours? What do you feed it?

Mine refuse all foods except live fish (not even freshly killed feeders) and worms. (Earthworms and blackworms)

like i said mine is the only one i have ever seen.
When i first got him he would eat white bait, but he was realy skinny when i got him, after that he would only eat live food like goldfish and giant mealworms ,,hes about 2 foot ish, hard to say i have him in with a rope fish, im a bit worred about the ropfish????

So yours is on live only, too? Mine love earthworms, so when it warms up, food will be a little less expensive, but still...

Mine are about the same length also. They are in with south american lungfish and there is squabbling at feeding time, but other than that, no fighting. I would not worry about your ropefish as long as the rope is pretty decent sized (Not a tiny thing)
And just in case you weren't aware, the species is Monopterus albus, for future reference.

no i did not know that thanks , i cant belive you and i are the only ones with these there so cool,,, i recommend every one have one

It's hard to believe that you, me, and one other guy has these. 3 guys on all of MFK.... Not even oddball or neoprodigy....

I wonder if there is some certain unconscious aversion to them?

i would like to keep 10 or more in a tank but there are two problems that i can see.
1 i dont know if they will get on in gropes??
2 i dont think i will be able to find another one never mind another eight

golds aquariums in Calgary alberta can get them

They DO well in groups. My 3 are very happy together.

GOOD LUCK finding some. SHARK AQUARIUM has a bunch, but his prices are.... let's just say even I won't buy them.
