Gold Wolf Pack

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Keep us updated! Mine played nice for a few weeks but slowly after it became obvious there was always a low man on the totem pole, and always one getting picked on. Maybe all the plants will be the key!
Will do! There definitely is a pecking order but they use the floating plants to hide and rest.

Just a quick update here all the golds are doing great. The pecking order has been fully established, but the tankmates and the plants keep the aggression to a minimum. They also show no signs of aggression with any fish that they do not see as food which I hear is odd for gold wolves.

Good to hear.

Any pics? And what're the tankmates? I hope everything stays positive.

Sorry I just saw this. They are in with a plethora of upper jaw polys, 2 bristlenose plecos, a tyretrack eel (yes I know not smart but I got him for free and he holds his own just fine), and a pike cichlid that keeps the wolves in check. I think I can attribute the tankmates (especially the pike) and the abundance of plants in my set-up for keeping my wolves from each others throats.

Awesome.

I had my first real fight today. I got home from work just in time to watch my dominant male assert pressure on the second male for the prime hiding place. Usually this ends in the smaller male swimming off and being chased around the tank once resulting in at most a torn fin. Today however, he decided to stand his ground. They swam in circles biting each other in the sides. I really wanted to break the fight up, but decided to let it run a bit. Both fish ended up getting pretty banged up, but the second male definitely earned respect from the dominate male. I am hoping that my gamble of letting them fight it out will pay off with less aggression down the road.

It could cause one to get over zealous... But I hope it doesn't come to that, also how are you so sure they're males?
