We'll see after like what.. 4 to 5 years? After I get my gold wolf this saturday. Hopefully I can witness that max growth then I can get back to this thread and tell the world haha!
I really like the seller I'm getting this wolf from, other than he will give me a discount. I told him I want to get like 3 and will experiment in putting it in a comm. He wouldn't sell me more than one if I would comm it. He said that I'm risking the fish. That tells me that he is more about the hobby than the money. Getting a quality fish from him day in and day out which he is known for is even another thing.
Golds, hoplerythrinus are not really like erythrinus species. Physically they sit somewhere in between Erythrynus and hoplias. Behaviourly similar to both but differ by being open water swimmers.
The max i have seen is about 12" in captivity, they are reported to reach 16". They are open water swimmers and swim in loose shoals in the wild. They are only territorially aggressive with themselves and leave others alone.
There is a really good downloadable video available on wolffish in the wild. Anybody who is really into wolffish would enjoy it. It starts with the capture of a large Aimara for a Venezuelan public aquarium. Then goes into a sequence of Mala and golds in there environment. Anybody setting up a gold tank should see it,
It was this that got me trying to set something up. I had started with 3 and while there were other fish swimming around they seemed fine. Only when other fish started dropping off did they start on each other, one was killed. I added my lacerdae which seemed to calm them a little but after seeing some tooth marks from test feeding I pulled them out. They have now grown a bit and I am going through the process of putting them back in. Realistically I want another 3. It's worth mentioning that any account I have read about hasn't worked out in the long term. There will be an exception somewhere I am sure.
How long til you get him to 9"-10"? So is it safe to say that you can mix a gold with red? but not with another gold? Or should it really be a totally different specie?
