Golden Tegu

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Poison arrow frogs would not be a wise snack. Thier so expensive and so low nutritionally. All tegus can eat frogs and all tegus like water but they probably won't swim in it just maybe soak in it. I would give him a shallow water dish for him to soak in. They are not water monitors and don't really like swimming all the time. My tegu does enjoy nice warm soaks. The water area you have looks awesome. They REALLY like to dig so give them plenty of loose substrate. My little guy has become a pro at making his own burrows. Tegus can eat a wide variety of things so don't limit yourself to what you can feed him but know what they are nutritionally and don't feed to much junk food. For instance I currently feed my tegu ground turkey mix, mice, superworms, mealworms, crix, egg, salmon, tuna, earthworms, and the occasional cichlid. Im still thinking up things to feed him.

Apart from the one time a day I get to see him when he's basking,
Im very happy with this piece of living gold.
He's less shy now.

The enclosure looks awesome! I wish mines could be nice like that. Be warned, if they are anything like thier larger cousins all those plants will be dug up.

Yeah me and my Tegu have an interactive relationship.
Lets see how long the plants last.
Tomorrow Im finally gonna install his UV-B light.
His basking spot has only UV-A.
Oops.

I also got three LED lights, 0,03W each. Nightlight.
My whole room bright blue in the middle of the night!
I'll try to take some pics.

sounds nice can't wait to see it.

I tried everything, but the blue nightlight is not to be captured on any kinda pic!
But its stunning!
Bright light, like a very full moon.

About the plants I think its gonna be as with my Oscars.
Three years of gardening of both sides.
And then Im the first to give it all up.
But thats OK, (I reckon I got not much of a choice).

I'll post some pics soon of the new lights.

My Tegu doesnt show any nigttime activity. I placed the night lights above my 750G.

And as I said its not doable to capture the effect of 3 LED nightlights on my camera.
I can show the LEDs. They are waterproof:

Pretty blue.

Here you see in the reflection how blue:

Im insomnious, but now I can observe my main tank at night, with among others four Oscars, I dont mind so much any more.

:chillpill:

My Tegu is still skittish, I dont mind if he stays this way.
I feed him fuzzies and I released a big locust in his enclosure,
see how docile he'll become of that. :D

His terrarium now:

Under the bark his little pool.

As you see I installed his uvB light.

He's still buried for most of the day, good news is that since I've gaven
him some bark, he's hiding less deep.
For as far as handling herps, I've took a Burmese Python on the side.
