Goldfish hating.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well Goldfish have never crossed my mind. My mom had the Koi pond since I was a kid, so I've always been used to the Koi. Some have died and some have been given away, so a few months ago we restocked the whole thing with all juvenile fish. In my sig.

my friend has a 10" pond with goldfish and koi in it...it is relaxing to watch and easy to maintain...there is a lake buy our houses and some old people put goldfish in it and they are out of control...we go there during pond season and catch them to sell to the lfs he works at...the biggest we've caught was 14"

check the gold fish pic threads on MFK buddy..that will prove it to you how cool they are..i personally dont hate any fish.its your opinion anyways

i think when we say we hate goldfish, comets are what come to mind. not all those other fancy ones. i dont hate em, but have looked at them as not interesting to keep cuz theyre kinda like beginner little kid fish haha. plus as a MFKer i see them as food. if i ever have kids though, thats what they will start their fish keeping with hahaha.

Thought I would add this link to Aquarama 2009 Goldfish Competition

I love the Ryukin-Long Caudal Fin 2nd place.
That's a broadtail ryukin. It's a shame though that the constant grooming of these fish makes them more prone to health issues and shorter lifespan. Apparently, most of them die even during and after the show. They're nice fish but they tend to be more delicate than the domestic ones we often raise. I also have a broadtail but it doesn't really match any show types that are properly groomed.

i personally love the goldfish, my kids have six of them, lionhead, ranchu and blackmoors. they are pretty and calming to watch. I just wish i had researched them before i had bought them. i originally had them in a really small tank, then i soon had upgraded, and upgraded and upgraded :ROFL:but if it weren't for these fish i never would have gotten into the tropicals, lol

I have seen some stunning goldfish in the shops here. But I don't think they are the ones that are as finicky as the show ones. Some however are the ones not kept by the breeders for the shows

Okay, I'm going to admit I was wrong.

Last month, the local pet shop (I really don't dig it there too much, but it's convenient when you need something fast) had a tank full of sarasa goldfish. My little girl would run over to the tank, stare at them and say, "pishie!"- she loved them! After two separate trips involving her running up to the tank of sarasa goldfish, we caved in and bought two. We brought them home and put them in a ten gallon tank on top of her dresser in her bedroom.

The tank I set up for them was a plain white sand bottom and aged water, with an airstone and the filter that came with the tank. There was no furniture with them, but I wasn't about to waste my time. I mean, they're just stupid goldfish, right? On top of that, as soon as we brought them home my daughter barely noticed them anymore.

So, it's been a few weeks. Last week I decided on a whim to buy them quality goldfish food because my maternal instincts told me to. Yesterday during their weekly waterchange, I took a piece of driftwood covered in javamoss from a sunny tank along with some live plant cuttings and placed them artfully in the tank. After I was finished, I found myself sitting in front of the tank feeling pleased as the little goldfish explored the plants and driftood. Wait a second...did I just think these stupid goldfish were kinda cute? The one has bright red eyeballs, a small red patch on his head, and perfect whiteness everywhere else. The second one has more red on the head, white eyeballs, a perfect white body and longer fins than the red eyed one. The red eyed one is the dominant one and he's getting a really fat belly. Hmmm, do they have personality? Yeah, they do.

So *sigh*- now we're forced to begin plans for a pond outside eventually. I mean, it was something that was probably going to happen anyway, but these little fish can't stay in a ten gallon tank forever, right?

Silly goldfish.
