Goldfish hating.

I like regular old comets. I have 2 right now. The fancy ones look too disfigured. I dont get why people would want to selectively breed a fish for its flaws. They dont look like they are healthy. Some have to be fed special floating foods because their eyes are stuck looking straight up and they cant see sinking foods. I like natural fish with natural colors. I dont like parrots or flowerhorns either, but thats just me.

I have 3 goldfish in a 70 gallon tank. I love them all. One comet that I pulled out of my brother-in-laws 20 gallon heated tank, a shebunkin and a black moore. I used to breed black moores, comets and orandas in large quantities, but got out of it more than 10 years ago.

Wattamellon, if you could move those two you have to a 30 gallon tank, they won't need a pond for another couple of years. They will stunt quickly in a 10, but in a 30 they will be good for at least 1.5- 2 years.

Here's a picture of the two goldfish that we now have:

Ohh they are wonderful. I see why they grew on you so quick. They are shebunkins. (Shebunkin is just a white color morph of a comet.)

they are too common and when in petstores crowded.
You're generalizing every variant of goldfish on that one. There are fancier strains that are quite desirable yet very difficult to obtain such as the true ranchus as most strains are usually lionheads and lionchus mistaken for ranchus. Most people tend to be strict about their choices and if they want ranchus for instance, they look for the steeply downward curve of the tail nub that indicates the specimen may be a ranchu rather than lionhead.

Sorry but I do not condone your suggestions of stunting the fish. It is unfair and abusive on the part of the fish to be given such conditions. Stunting cuts down their lifespan. You will find that by performing necropsy on stunted fish, you will see that the internal organs have grown too largely disproportionate to body size which can slowly destroy them.

That's incorrect. Shubunkins and comets are fairly distinctive, not merely a sub-variant of a comet. Comets are more distinguishable by the scissor-edged tail with a more streamlined body than the more rounded caudal lobes of the shubunkins.

When I bought them, they called them "sarassa" or something like that.
Sarasa refers to their coloration being purely red and white only. Your goldfish's colors might eventually change as a result of changing environmental conditions especially foods.

Comets and the basic feeder dont bother me they just lack any appeal, but Orandas and Bubble eyes just look gross. Theres a certain point when it stops looking like a fish. Like French Bulldogs that have a hard time breathing because their face has been crushed by breeding.

How am I condoning stunting? I told her to move them out of a 10 to avoid stunting them? From egg to 1.5 years even when raised in a 4000 gallon pond they won't be more than 5-6" long, when raised in a 30 gallon tank they would be approximately 4-5" long, meaning that if they were moved to pond at that point (which is what I suggested) they could be moved before they were stunted. I am trying to help her avoid stunting the fish which is quite the opposite of what you are saying.
