i don't hate goldfish. it's just that, as is the case with most aquarist, we have had our share of them. i know that i have. i liked them as a kid, but i outgrew them. also, goldfish are not the brightest fish. if there was a fish intelligence quotient test, goldlfish would have some of the lower scores.

I still love ranchu's and they are hard to come by. Unless theres venders that can get big fatty's out there @ MFK.

Not every goldfish is responsive. You can't just ask for a goldfish and accept the one you're handed. You have to stand at the tank and figure out which one is noticing you. The goldfish that respond to your presence will end up being more adorable, typically. Also, the less inbred varieties tend to be a bit spunkier.
