Ill be FAR from you. Pensacola.

The pompano should be running good too. Last time I was down late in the season for pompano (early May) and still did well from the Pensacola pier. This year I should be in the heart of Pomp season...damn they are tastey!

Wurm, I will take you up on that fish fry!

Unannon, yes the sauger was 23". My personal best. The trophy size is 18" so I easily got that beat but the world record is an amazing 17lbs! There are walleye present in the area but saugeye are rare.

hope you catch a cold :p

it's very similar to the Zander that we get here in the UK.

Nice fish.

The Sauger (Sander canadensis) is of the family Percidae which resembles its close relative the walleye.

Our Zander the scientific name is Sander lucioperca (or Stizostedion lucioperca), a member of the perch family and closely related to walleye and sauger

There is a second species (Lucioperca wolgensis) is limited to rivers in southern Russia and the basin of the Danube.

Nice fish i have caught a few Zander what did you catch it on i take it it was a lure?

whats the fight like?the pike i have caught fight harder than Zander

I caught the fish on a 3/8oz chartreus jig head with a Berkley Gulp Smelt. The fight is very little. But it takes some skill to catch these guys as they live in fast current so it is hard to differentiate a bite from the jig bouncing along the bottom. The people that can do that consistantly bring in many more fish then those that cant.

The only reason why I fish for these guys is the their good eats! And damn are they tastey!

Haha I actually bought those cause you got me craving one after you brought them up!

I still havent gone to the liquor store for terrible though...

i have never seen a sauger. mabey they aren't common in the south. I would like to keep a fish like that. Looks like a beast, nice teeth also. i wonder what water temperatures that fish likes best
