I'm not singling anything out and saying I want a plain old angry Monitor. I just want something that doesn't like being handled. Something that will look great in a display cage.
I would go for the green tree monitor or even the blue if you dont want to handle it much the seem to stress some times holdingn them from what ive read ,but also it said that tree monitors arent good for beginers neither.but thats what i would do its a shame monitors are illegal in Mass.:irked:Know unfortunatly i have to leen towards a blue tongue skink the seem to adapt better to humans, read them up im getting one for my house hold also i have kids..so if you cant get a monitor give this a try .....http://bluetongueskinks.net/...i hope i could help yah!!

Don't get caught up in a huge monitor if you don't have the experience or space. Black Throats get 5-7 feet long. Highly aggressive and have a tail comparable to Komodos. Savana monitors / White Throats are half the size go with something smaller until you have the space and money to feed a BTM. Check out my gallery I have a BTM around 32-34 inches. Quick growers too. They need tons of attention so they remain tolerant of you. They are not for everyone so choose wisely. Stoked that you are interested! Good luck!

I hate NY....! I can't even spit on the ground without it being illegal!
I can actually relate to that, I mean here it isnt and lots of folk do it but c´mon its nasty. I dont think it should be ilegal per say, legislators have better things to do then regulating every single human gesture but I think as well people should mind there manners.
Now back on the thread, I think you should seriously consider getting yourself a savannah or better yet a ackie, all the fun of the big boys without the danger. Dont forget as well that bigger monitors may be stunning but they produce allot of waste, are highly destructive thoards everything in their path and can be a pain to feed in more then one way. Personally one of things I dont like about really large species is this, I think "well I could take really good care of that animal" but then I figure to be able to do that I can only have one rep. I have contacted with several very large lizards, love them but when it comes to high maintenace species like monitors, smaller ones are really better at least to start. You have allot of people that even started great with the big ones you like, had them for many years but in the end swiched to much smaller species. The apeal of a lower maintenace animal that you can keep in a very interesting naturalistic setup and that is much easier to breed conquered them for good. However big boys have as well their advantages, you look at them and they look rigth back at you. But start slow, to check them out and one day when you have your own place if you still want it go for that really big lizard :)

Thanks guys, I think I may just stick with a smaller species. I really love ackies, so I may just get a few of them. Since for the cage size needed to house ONE argus, I could house a small harem of Ackies..which I plan to do. :)

ackies cost like 200ish each depending on yellow or red. Just in case you didn't know or cared to know.

I was just saying. No need to get defensive....if you were in fact getting defensive....it's a bit hard to tell over the internet.
