Good dithers for SA tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know you want to stick with an SA theme, but I'll just put my 2 cents in on Giant Danios. Get larger, very active, fast, take up the upper section of the tank, they work great as both dithers and target fish.

Silver Dollars sound like the way to go if you ask me. What's the downside to them?

The two reasons why I didn't go with silver dollars.

1. Size
2. Tank Region

Beaware of the cons I threw 20 or so in a 125 with 13 piranha 3"-10". They ate some but when the cons colonized and started breeding they kicked my piranhas a#%. I like the giant danio and gourami ideas. I've had gold gourami in tanks w/ full grown oscars w/o a problem

Yeah, it now seems like it might not be such a good idea with the cons. Danios are interesting because they are cheap, fast and stay towards the top. I dont know about gouramis though. My Jd is a punk and I figure a full grown festae and jag will be two 12"+ fish with pretty bad dispositions. Seems like the gouramis would get beat on. Plus, they are not very quick.

mollies, red eye tetra, both are fast. I would go with mollies and then their fry if they survive. Tetras are fast, but usually get into trouble when trying to find a place to hide.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Now that I'm considering breaking the biotope idea, I wonder how Roselines would do? Be a little expensive and the temps would need to be lowered, but they are pretty big and really fast. They would love the 8' tank for swimming space too.....
