Yeah , I only have one and the tank is relatively peaceful with the other cichlids, but I've heard they can be over the top when breeding. From potentially 6" fish. Might be something I'd try on about 2-3 years once everyone's adult sized..... But then it would still be constant war because they never really stop breeding from what I hear.... regardless of cichlid temperament, I'd like to keep as much peace as possible and a breeding colony of convicts might not be the best idea....
I like buenos aires tetras. Cool fish. I'm really thinking about the roselines alot now. Roseline sharks school, get 4-6", love swimming space( perfect for an 8' tank) and are fast...... I think a school of about a dozen would look stunning.........Downside is the price, but they are truly beautiful barbs. Basically, a display all by themselves.......
I've got the space where I could pull off 2 healthy sized schools of larger fish. Maybe roselines and buenos aires. Maybe congos. Silver dollars....... Hmmmm
Look into the Buenos Aires Tetras. They are tough, fast moving, stay in mid tank level, look like the tetras native to CA (Astyanax species) and are very cheap. They look good in a school. This will let you keep your biotope more or less intact. If you're ok mixing continents then do a school of giant danios for top water movement. IME either or both will work better than the cons in the long run. Your dither fish shouldn't terrorize your show fish!
