Good filteration for 55G

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
On my 55g all I have is a AC70 (great filter BTW) and a little HOB with some bioballs & plants just for a little extra help.

My stock is:
11 silver dollars
4 emerald cory cats
15 ghost shrimp
2 snails
1 pleco

My levels are always good with only one 60% WC every 7-10 days.

I know on this forum it is common practice to go overkill, and if you got the money go for it. But, it is not required. O, but forgot to mention, I did double up on the bio media in my AC70. But still!

I have 2 AC 70 and i have 2 5 " koi and a 4" goldfish who thinks hes a koi

If you want good, inexpensive filtration for a 55g tank, use two AC70's or one AC110 (or a comparable canister filter).

Using anything else in addition to that is just wasting electricity and wasting a big filter for more water movement, because its not likely to be doing any kind of bio filtration unless the tank is horrendously overstocked. If you want more water movement, just get a couple powerheads.
