Good fish for cycling tanks

Are silver dollars good fish to use to aid in a large tank's cycling process? Are they hardy enough?

If you want to get a tank cycled before you add your main stock in, why not just throw a piece of raw shrimp in the tank to let it rot and release ammonia? Alternatively ammonia with no additives bought from a hardware store, but I hate adding it everyday.

Why don't you fishless cycle your tank? No fish are harmed in the process, and you can build up massive amounts of beneficial bacteria, enough to more than handle the bioload of the fish you are going to add to the tank.

Use the Fishless Method. Either dose ammonia, or leave a rotting shrimp in the tank.

I prefer letting the tank run a couple nights, then adding 1 or two fish at a time and checking parameters everyday,

It works. That's how I cycle all my tanks now.
