More tips: dont get anoles at least for now, very stress prone, can reject food, territorial and hands of, display pets. Also need big setups dispite small size. Leos is a good start. Can be handled but avoid doing it. Get insects from a good sorce, mainly crickets and meal worms and gutload them with leafy greens, fish food and carrots.:)

the way I see it depends on if its the kind of kid that would get mad and drop it,toss it or squeeze it.Ive got a young nephew that I would only give a BD or BTS to.Maybe a full grown nile, lol.

If you get a leo please give it a bigger tank then a 10 gallon eventually my friend had one in a 10 gallon for year or 2 and it really wasn't happy all ways hid eventually he gave it to me and i put it in a plastic tub thats around 35 gallons and has a nice foot print its much more out going and seems happier

Anoles are good starter lizards pretty cool to watch if you get 2 males they have a red flap of skin under there mouths that they can stick out and flash around and don't require a fancy set

I would go for anoles there cheap eazy to pretty eazy to take care of the only difficult thing about them is they need to be missted daily twice a day is good they get there water by drinking water droplets on leafs and tank wall

For beeding i love the shreded cocanut bark or the echo earth you get bricks of it and soak it in water and it expands alot its great beeding for tropical lizards and frogs

like this stuff http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752603

Other then that a tight fitting lid a heat lamp and a few fake plants and such to climb on are all they need great starter lizards
