For the record, I have been active on this thread as well. I was the first mod to comment on this thread. So the "one" moderator comment is a bit off.

I'm curious, is there a way to see how many people have ignored you, not who, just how many? It could be a good tool to get people to realize how they are acting.

There is no way you could put control of the banning into the hands of the members. We wouldn't have a site left.

If someone bothers you, put them on your ignore list or report the post via the report function. The moderator team will address the issue. Of course, this is not to say that every reported issue is met with banning or infractions. The issues are looked at individually.

Maybe I didn't explain it well. I didn't mean that members would take control of banning another member completely off the site, just ban someone to reply their own posts. For example if in my post someone is acting rude or insults me I would be able to block him from even commenting on my threads but he can still post his own threads and reply to others just not me.
So with this option the problematic ones will be weeded out. In case of a rude poster he will be eventually be blacked from posting to other members thread as well as they will block him for rude comments as well, and in the case of the overly sensitive members eventually he will block everyone and there will be no one left for him to interact with.
IMO it's a win-win
