i jsut wanted to make this thread so i can help my friend who is new and doesnt know what to get and i wanted to help him get a few ideas (he has a 10 gallon aquarium) he will get a very large aquarium in the future (within a year or something like that it depends on his grades lol) and he will most likely need help with that also so and good ideas?

Here is mine:
a few guppies
a betta
clawed frogs
small mollies
platies
shrimp
snails

good fish for beginners in a 10 gallon: white cloud minnows, platies, zebra danios, small platies...

Tell him to go with the betta or guppies. May be able to add a ghost shrimp with either of them (very iffy with the betta though).

I don't like to recommend bettas for beginners, because most beginners are not ready to deal with compatibility issues with bettas, or they will try keeping them in substandard conditions

i go over to his house once every 2 weeks and i can make sure he is careing for the fish right :)

Neon tetras and rummy noses aren't as newb friendly as one would expect. I would suggest gold barbs, zebra danio, and small livebearers, along with black skirt/widow tetras.

You could try a gold or blue gourami, they are pretty hardy and make an awesome centerpiece for a small aquarium. I had a gold one for a few years when I was a nub. (TOTALLY NUB) It was my favorite fish for a while. He got about 5 inches in a 10 gallon with a few black skirt tetras and 3 albino white cloud minnows. Mine was non aggressive.

Forget clawed frog, they get too big for a 10gal. Dwarf clawed frog are not good for begininners. Mollies' no-no because they are too big and like have much space and would pick on each other if cramped.

Mosquitofish, guppies, platies, small tetras (except neons and cardinals), small danios, red rosies, cherry barbs, dwarf gourami, ghost shrimp, cherry shrimp and kuhli loaches, all are good for either community or groups in 10gal tank.

Convicts, threespot gourami, smaller crayfish species, and betta are better in 10gal as singly fish or two (except male betta)
