Good Nuchal Hump Growth?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't get me wrong, I think some hybrids are beautiful fish but, as a whole, they've caused so much trouble in the hobby that their impact has been far more negative than positive. But I'm glad you see the light.

Let's get this thread back on track to nuchal humps. Sorry for the de-rail. :)

Yea most likely a male. usually some cichlids do get humps even if they are female but it takes a old girl to get one. as far as the age old question on improving hummp size. on a fish where its not usual to have a huuuuuge hump like midas flowerhorn ect u really arent gonna be able to improve it or get it muuuch bigger. High protein diets do help. i feed as a staple a 50% protein pellet as well as some other things and i will tell you i do see an improvement on humps on fish my 3" green terror , 3" jewel and female midas all have good size humps. most fish genetics also play a huge roll.
I would add that i love that convictx hrp . i have a blue female that breeds with my platinum honduran red point ive never raised the babies out to see what they would like...now im curious. :P

thanks for that, im pretty confident its male now, you know what its like, one person places doubt, and it niggles at you. I dont expect it to be a massive hump, i feed him, hikari, a cichlid mix, tropical flakes, and new life spectrum. Plus he hacks at my plants all day too. im constantly on the look out for good food for him, i think thats why he's doubled in size in the last 3 weeks.
