They wont sell you regular fish or crayfish and lobster as feeders. They get alot of slack form PETA if they do. Petco and Petsmart policy. Huh, go figure. My puffer has no crunchys now.

knowingly selling fish on sale as feeders is 50/50 at the petsmarts here. if one wont do it, the one done the street probably will. i just tell em i gotta 20,000g tank when they start asking questions and that pretty much shuts em up.

Rallysman: "Platys are on sale for $.49? I'll take them all!
Petco employee: What size tank do you have?!
Rally: 265 gal
Petco Employee: What do you keep them with?
Rally: Arowana, but only for a very short time.
Petco employee::eek:

I think Management has a lot to do with how much knowledge an employee has about fish. If the manger knows a lot it’s more likely for some of that information to rub off to the employees. I have met a few employees that have impressed me. Most of the time those employees who have some knowledge of fish have had or have fish of there own.
I think those employees who refuse to sell a fish for what ever the reason have a general knowledge of the hobby. :thumbsup:

I love when i walk in to my petsmart, and there always seems to be a mother and a daughter, looking through all the comet goldfish looking for the cutest one or whatever. so i just stand their and wait until im attended too and say 50 of the comets please the employee could care less but the mother/daughter look at me like im crazy and the mom never says anything b/c she knows what im going to do wit em. but the little girl always asks wow, why do you want so many and i always reply well i can never get all the fish to live for more than a few minutes.:ROFL:

Thats nasty.. Eating a koi... They're so cute looking!

Cyprinus carpio was a food species way before there were color morphs that developed into nishikigoi (fancy carp or koi), there are many dishes made with Cyprinus carpio. During my trip to China a few years ago in GuangZhou I went to a restaurant that had koi mixed in with wild carp and you could choose your own fish and essentially eat koi for the same price as wild carp. Koi is simply carp with colors. Oscars and Peacock Bass are often and popularly eaten as well in SA.

LMAO!

we have decent petsmarts around here.

that being said, every time I go in they ask me the usual "what size tank to you have" and you know it will eat smaller fish right? questions. After I explain what I have I thank then for asking and caring about the fish.....then I ask when they are going to stop selling Pacu. They have already stopped selling the albino channel cats, which is a great thing.
