Good plants for a beginner?

Water sprite is like spreads like a disease in my big tank planted in sand with no fertilizer, but a heavy bio load. I have nano tanks with light bio loads and nutrient enriched substrate that I have to add fertilizer to, and l have dwarf hair grass growing. I’d say that if your using a decent led and you can’t get plants to grow then you are probably missing something. It could be you don’t have enough plant food, or your not providing enough light, or your temperature is to high or low.

I've had good luck with Seachem Flourish fertilizer.

As far as Java Fern goes, it takes a bit to establish itself. Sometimes it seems like it isn't doing anything then all of a sudden you will see plantlets develop.

Only thing that hasn't been mentioned as an easy keeper so far is hornwart. I just drop a handful in a lit tank and soon I have a forest.

I would reckon so. It grows in ponds and canals here and our water gets quite cold in the winter. It grows fine in the cold, even faster when its warm. I have to pull the excess from my tanks every few weeks and compost it. The bigger fish here run out of swimming space after a month or so if I dont.

Flourite doesn't contain ferts per say, but grabs them from the water. Handy for root feeding plants.

Epiphyte plants are good, Bacopa monnieri is also a rather undemanding stem. My go to low tech stuff:

• Mosses
• Anubias
• Java fern
• Cryptocoryne sp
• Floaters

Got ots of these growing in our water ways in fl. It’s a hardy plant and should grow, floating or planted.

Lol you must special skills then.

I have brown thumb skills when it comes to terrestrial plants. I'm so bad that my husband has banned me from touching our flower beds or any lawn tools. My lovely yard and gardens....thats all his doing.

I'm not even allowed to rake leaves, and they're already dead lol
